Amazon vs iTunes? dun dun dun!

Eric @ 7:11 pm 0 Comments

Looks like we have another battle on the horizon. The battle between Amazon and iTunes that is. The Amazon MP3 service was announced today that they will be going global, though a launch date has not yet been set. To be honest, it’s about time someone has stepped up to the plate to compete against iTunes, it was only a matter of time.

Amazon MP3 catalogue is the only digital music catalogue that offers DRM-free tracks from all 4 major labels, which are significantly cheaper than iTunes. Amazons MP3 catalogue offers roughly around 3.3 million tracks, which obviously is a heavy competitor to iTunes.

Guitars: Reason for Gaming Boost

Guitar and music games such as Rock Band and Guitar Hero are reasons for the gaming boom.

Both games have been so popular they account for more than 20-25% of all game sales! Both games are available for consoles such as the XBox 360 and they are just so darn attractive and addictive.

Both games require songs to play too of course and with these games, gamers are buying songs rapidly. Poor Apple and iTunes, they get left out; maybe they should have made a deal.

Apple fanboys are Bitter-Sweet

Day One at MacWorld 2008 has left Apple fanboys bitter-sweet.

For one, most are impressed with the design of the new Apple Macbook Air. It is so thin and light with cutting edge design cues but, there are some draw back such as only having one USB port, non removable parts, and no optical drive.

The Time Capsule and iTunes Movie Rentals are great additions but, who really needs to transfer files wirelessly with the Time Capsule? I guess it could complement your Macbook Air which only has 1 USB port.

The iTunes Movie Rental program seems a little overpriced when compared to the competition: Netflix.

What disappointed a lot of experts and consumers? No 3G iPhone as announced and only a quick update was announced. Sure, you can now reorganize your icons on the iPhone and iTouch but, 3G was expected and Apple could not have at least released a 16GB iPhone?

 Bummer…

As most already know, MacWorld is approaching in 3 days and whats the big talk?

Steve Jobs is expected to annouce that iTunes will supposedly enable movie rentals in which iTune users will be able to rent movies rather than buy.

Not only does this mean savings for consumers but, Apple stocks are rising steadily just days before MacWorld because investors see potiential in what Jobs may produce.
