All aboard Wi-Fi!

Planes, trains and automobiles, now its all in tact. Wi-Fi was first made available to cars, then planes, and now, finally, trains. A popular 45 mile commuter line will have at least 1 car per train with internet service. They decided to take it to the field and test run it, “we realize there will be bugs and glitches, but we felt it was best to get it out there and try it out”. This particular commuter line carries approximately 18,000 passengers daily across 17 stations.
They plan on expanding this luxury to all 13 of Massachusetts commuter lines. This would more then likely be the largest widespread train based Wi-Fi outside of Europe. This trial run is using Sprint’s EVDO service through an external antenna mounted on each car. Currently they have about 40-45 coaches that set up and ready for Wi-Fi.
This is pretty kick ass, sooner or later everywhere you go is going to be Wi-Fi accessible.
