It seems recently the guys over at Crave have come across something quite interesting while at a friendly dinner with some representatives from Asus. Reported they were told in a “very hush manner” that “Asus is helping Apple build a Tablet PC.” Of course we can all count the endless rumors involving anything to do with Apple, though this seems to be more true then just a fairytale, due to the fact that Asus is Apple’s contract manufacturer. Asus is a big player behind the building of the iBook, PowerBook, as well as the MacBook.

After these rumors started to spread, a little more investigation had to take place. With that said, Asus confirmed that the Apple Tablet will not be based on existing Asus designs such as the R1. It’s said that that it will come from a completely new blueprint, possibly based on the patent Apple filed back in May of 2005. Though we can only assume with a 3 year difference from the patent to now, that Apple has more or less reconstructed that proposal to the fullest.

We’re guessing it’ll be based on Intel Core architecture, a tweaked version of Leopard, and have all the multi touch, CoverFlow goodness we’ve seen in the iPhone and iPod touch.” -Crave

Unfortunately there hasn’t been a release date mentioned or any proposals leaked, though we can only imagine what Apple has planned for the future of tablet PCs. We’ve seen what they’ve done with revolutionizing cellular phones, touch screen media players, and now the forefront for tablet PC’s is on the horizon.
